چکیده

Abstract When the modern-like geomorphology and climate pattern of Himalaya-Tibetan Plateau were established still remains unclear. In this study, we apply paired stable isotope compositions carbonate (δ18Oc) leaf waxderived n-alkanes (δ2Halk) from upper Gazhacun Formation in Namling Basin to reconstruct middle Miocene elevation southern Tibet. Depositional age has been precisely constrained between 15.5 Ma 15.1 by zircon U-Pb ages dacite interlayers. Paired derived δ18Ow values (–17.9 ± 1.3‰ –18.3 1.3‰) leaf-wax δ2Hw (–131.5 20‰ –145.7 20‰) plot on or very close global meteoric water line suggesting that these samples experienced little evaporation enrichment isotopic alternation. Based two independent proxies, paleoelevation estimates for are consistently 4.6+0.7/-0.8 km 5.2+0.7/-0.8 km, supporting a high Tibet mid-Miocene. Integrated with published Himalaya, central northern literature, near-present across whole already since (ca. 15 Ma). Besides, show gradually increase northward Himalaya northeastern Tibet, quite similar present day. This suggests during Miocene, Himalaya-Gangdese system may have blocked southerly monsoonal moisture reaching Westerlies local recycling might be dominant sources enriched precipitation could lead erroneous over

Early Miocene elevation in northern Tibet estimated by palaeobotanical evidence

The area and elevation of the Tibetan Plateau over time has directly affected Asia's topography, the characteristics of the Asian monsoon, and modified global climate, but in ways that are poorly understood. Charting the uplift history is crucial for understanding the mechanisms that link elevation and climate irrespective of time and place. While some palaeoelevation data are available for sou...

Late Miocene upward and outward growth of eastern Tibet and decreasing monsoon rainfall over the northwestern Indian subcontinent since ∼10 Ma

[1] Many geologic observations suggest that the eastern portion of the Tibetan Plateau has expanded eastward and grown in height over the past 15-10 Ma, and other observations suggest that climate over the northwestern Indian subcontinent (“NW India”) became more arid between 11 and 7 Ma. We suggest that they are linked: higher terrain increased orographic precipitation over eastern Tibet, whic...

Zoophycos macroevolution since 541 Ma

Zoophycos is one of the most complex and enigmatic trace fossils recorded in marine strata from Cambrian to Quaternary worldwide, which is invaluable for the study of Phanerozoic development of organism-environment interactions. Here we address and demonstrate the macroevolution of Phanerozoic Zoophycos by assembling 448 points in constructing the Phanerozoic Zoophycos database based on 291 pap...
